The United States (SA) President Donald Trump administration is expected to deploy US public health officers to Kenya to staff a potential quarantine facility \u200bthere amid the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the \u200cWall Street Journal<\/em> reported on Tuesday.<\/div>\n

The facility, which was pending approval from the Kenyan government as of Tuesday, is intended for Americans who have been exposed to or at high risk \u200bof testing positive for the virus in the region, as well as \u200bthose who test positive, the report said, citing people familiar with \u2060the matter.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Some members of the US Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, a uniformed \u200bbranch under the Department of Health and Human Services, have received notices to deploy, \u200bthe report said.<\/div>\n

The White House did not immediately respond to Reuters’ requests for comment.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
A Kenyan Foreign Affairs Ministry Spokesperson said they were in the process of verifying reports of the facility \u200bbeing set up there.<\/div>\n

The move comes as health authorities race to contain a \u200bfast-growing outbreak of a rare Ebola strain in the DRC and Uganda.<\/div>\n

The World \u200cHealth \u2060Organisation has declared the outbreak of the rare Bundibugyo strain, the third-largest such outbreak on record, a public health emergency of international concern.<\/div>\n

Ebola is a severe and often fatal disease transmitted through direct contact with infected bodily fluids.<\/div>\n

Earlier on Tuesday, the US \u200bCenters for Disease \u200bControl (CDC) and Prevention \u2060asked staff to volunteer for urgent deployment to support Ebola screening at the country’s entry points, according to an email seen by \u200bReuters.<\/em><\/div>\n

To date, no cases of Ebola disease have been confirmed \u200bin the \u2060US and the risk to the general public remains low, CDC said.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
In DRC, there have been 906 suspected cases, including 105 confirmed, with 223 suspected deaths and 10 confirmed fatalities, \u2060CDC’s \u200blatest data showed.<\/div>\n

Uganda has reported seven confirmed \u200bcases and one death, with most infections linked to the initial cases.<\/div>\n
