If approved by the IMF Executive Board, the total size of the programme would rise to $395 million.

Completion of the review would allow a disbursement of $82 million, bringing total disbursements under the programme to $247 million.

Discussions also covered progress under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility. Approval of the first review under this programme would enable a further disbursement of $22 million. The IMF said Burkina Faso’s economic performance improved in 2025.

Real gross domestic product (GDP) growth was estimated at 5.3%, supported by gold exports and reforms in the mining sector. Inflation declined to about -0.5%, while the external balance moved from a deficit of 3.5% of GDP in 2024 to a surplus of 6.3% in 2025.

Programme implementation was described as strong, with most performance targets met. Structural reforms were also largely completed, including measures aimed at strengthening public financial management and governance.

The IMF noted that the fiscal deficit declined from 5.8% of GDP in 2024 to 1.8% in 2025, creating additional budgetary space. However, the outlook is affected by external developments. Rising commodity prices linked to the conflict in the Middle East are expected to increase costs for imported fuel and fertiliser, affecting agriculture and overall economic performance.

The IMF said the requested increase in financing is intended to address balance of payments pressures and support mitigation of the economic impact. Authorities have committed to maintaining reform momentum, including strengthening revenue mobilisation and managing fiscal risks.

The IMF said further priorities include improving social spending efficiency, supporting financial inclusion and encouraging private sector participation in the economy. The IMF Executive Board is expected to consider the review in late June 2026.

–IMF/ChannelAfrica–

[44
post-35624","news","type-news","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","news-type-finance","entry
An International Monetary Fund (IMF) team has reached a staff-level agreement with Burkina Faso on the fifth review of the country’s programme under the Extended Credit Facility (ECF), alongside discussions on additional financing and climate-related reforms.

An International Monetary Fund (IMF) team has reached a staff-level agreement with Burkina Faso on the fifth review of the country’s programme under the Extended Credit Facility (ECF), alongside discussions on additional financing and climate-related reforms.
["GET
