{"id":35783,"date":"2026-05-29T11:13:30","date_gmt":"2026-05-29T09:13:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/?post_type=news&#038;p=35783"},"modified":"2026-05-29T11:13:30","modified_gmt":"2026-05-29T09:13:30","slug":"regional-mental-health-workshop-underway-in-sa","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/regional-mental-health-workshop-underway-in-sa\/","title":{"rendered":"Regional mental health workshop underway in SA"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><span style=\"background-color: var(--global--color-background); color: var(--global--color-primary); font-family: var(--global--font-secondary); font-size: var(--global--font-size-base);\">The three-day East and Southern Africa Sub-Regional Mental Health Inter-Country Learning Workshop is underway in Johannesburg, Gauteng Province, South Africa (SA).\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div id=\"x_x_ms-outlook-mobile-body-separator-line\">\n<p>The meeting is convened by the World Health Organisation&#8217;s (WHO) Regional Office for Africa in collaboration with participating Member States.<\/p>\n<p>Countries are sharing experiences and achievements around mental health, and document best practices ahead of the 7th Global Ministerial Mental Health Summit, scheduled to take place in Kigali, Rwanda in October 2026.<\/p>\n<p>According to WHO,\u00a0Mental health conditions affect close to 150 million people on the continent.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop is expected to tackle this challenge.<\/p>\n<p>Those in attendance meeting include regional leaders, government representatives and institutional advocates from countries like Angola, Botswana, Ethiopia, eSwatini and many more.<\/p>\n<p>eSwatini has hailed the meeting for being productive.<\/p>\n<p>With a population of 1.2 million the country is facing a challenge of suicide.<\/p>\n<p>The country is the third leading country globally. with suicide rates and in the African region, it is the second leading country.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;Channel Africa&#8211;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":13977,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"news-type":[],"class_list":["post-35783","news","type-news","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","entry"],"acf":{"short_description":"","published_date":"","news_description":"Africa's mental health workshop","form_embed":"","author":"","image_caption":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news\/35783","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/news"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news\/35783\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":35784,"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news\/35783\/revisions\/35784"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/13977"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=35783"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"news-type","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news-type?post=35783"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
