The agreement was finalised during the AfDB Group Annual Meetings in Brazzaville, which conclude on Friday.<\/p>\n

Director for Financial Sector Development Ahmed Attout signed for the AfDB on May 28, while Secretary General Meshach Bandawe signed for the ASSA.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
ASSA is a membership-based organisation headquartered in Arusha, Tanzania. The association works to advance social protection systems across Africa through collaboration, promotion of best practices, and stronger institutional capacity among social security organisations.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Bandawe said the letter of intent marked a milestone in advancing Africa\u2019s social protection and development agenda. Bandawe said the partnership would support efforts by the ASSA and member institutions to transform social security and pension funds into strategic instruments for sustainable development, infrastructure financing, and regional economic integration.<\/p>\n

Bandawe said the partnership also aimed to strengthen institutional capacity, promote sound governance and investment frameworks, and unlock Africa\u2019s domestic capital for present and future generations.<\/p>\n

The partnership is aligned with the New African Financial Architecture for Development, endorsed under the Abidjan Consensus. Under the agreement, the AfDB and the ASSA will support the mobilisation of long-term domestic capital, strengthening of regional financial integration, and development of stronger institutional investment ecosystems across Africa.<\/p>\n

The two institutions will also cooperate on knowledge sharing, advocacy, and technical assistance. Attout said the partnership reflected a shared ambition under the Abidjan Consensus and the New African Financial Architecture for Development to strengthen Africa\u2019s financial resilience through more effective mobilisation of long-term domestic capital.<\/p>\n

Attout said social security and pension institutions were critical actors in deepening local capital markets and supporting strategic investments across the continent.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Attout said stronger collaboration on technical assistance, knowledge sharing, and scalable investment opportunities could help advance regional financial integration, strengthen risk-sharing mechanisms, and contribute to a more resilient African development financing architecture.<\/p>\n
