Hundreds of people in central Kenya blockaded roads with burning tyres in protest against United States (US) plans to establish an Ebola isolation centre at an American military base.<\/p>\n
The demonstrators in the town of Nanyuki say they believe preparations for the quarantine facility are continuing. They say this is despite a recent court ruling which ordered the suspension of the plan.<\/p>\n
The two organisations cited Kenya’s fragile health systems as the reason why foreign Ebola patients should not be quarantined in the country.<\/p>\n
And the US\u00a0officials said on Thursday that the US is planning to send Americans exposed to the Ebola while abroad to a new facility in Kenya instead of flying them home.<\/p>\n
Health Minister Aden Duale said the quarantine centre was for everyone and not exclusively for the US nationals. The US government intends to commit around $13.5 million towards the Kenya Ebola preparedness efforts.<\/p>\n
