They went door-to-door delivering the same message.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Amido fled and spent two nights in the mountains. Now he is sheltering in a local town hall, like other immigrants from Malawi and Mozambique across South Africa&#8217;s Western Cape province, forced to hide from anti-immigrant mobs in several coastal towns.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>SA has seen a wave of anti-immigrant protests, which have sometimes turned violent, in recent weeks.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Mozambique said five of its citizens were killed in xenophobic attacks in the town of Mossel Bay over the weekend.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Amido lives in Kleinmond, about 300 kilometres away.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>&#8220;On the 31st, people came to my house, knocked on the door, and then took all my belongings,&#8221; said the 49-year-old, who had been in SA since February looking for work.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>In Kleinmond town hall he is with about 100 other immigrants, some of whom are hoping to join voluntary repatriation programmes set up by their governments.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Xenophobic attacks are a recurring problem in SA, where immigrants are often blamed for economic woes such as high unemployment and crime.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>&#8211;Reuters&#8211;<\/div>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":13027,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"news-type":[26],"class_list":["post-36245","news","type-news","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","news-type-general_news","entry"],"acf":{"short_description":"","published_date":"","news_description":"African migrants flee  SA","form_embed":"","author":"","image_caption":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news\/36245","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/news"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news\/36245\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":36246,"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news\/36245\/revisions\/36246"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/13027"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=36245"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"news-type","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news-type?post=36245"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
