The destruction of infrastructure comes as fighting continues between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces, who have been battling for control of the country since April 15, 2023. The ongoing conflict has already left millions in urgent need of assistance, with access constraints further complicating relief efforts.<\/p>\n

In South Kordofan, two major bridges along the road between Kadugli and Dilling were also reportedly destroyed over the weekend, cutting off vital transport routes. UN Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq said the situation is particularly concerning as the rainy season begins, warning that alternative routes may become impassable once heavy rains intensify.<\/p>\n

Humanitarian operations remain fragile in several parts of the country. Aid movement along the Geneina\u2013Zalingei corridor, a critical route linking West and Central Darfur, was briefly suspended due to insecurity before resuming. The UN also reported increased drone activity in parts of Sudan, including Omdurman and Dilling, adding another layer of risk for civilians and humanitarian workers. Overall, more than 30 million people across the country require humanitarian assistance.<\/p>\n

The conflict\u2019s impact is also being felt beyond Sudan\u2019s borders. UN Assistant Secretary-General for Africa Martha Pobee told the Security Council that nearly one million Sudanese refugees have fled to Chad, alongside around 300 000 returning Chadians. This influx has placed significant strain on already limited resources and raised concerns about regional instability.<\/p>\n

The World Health Organisation noted that the growing number of refugees is placing immense pressure on Chad\u2019s health system, with efforts underway to support emergency care and essential services.<\/p>\n
