Speaking vehemently during an interview on Rise and Shine, Matsanga used the strict public pat-downs of the Senegalese national football team on an airport tarmac in Raleigh, North Carolina, as proof of heavy-handed mistreatment by American authorities.<\/p>\n

“There’s nobody making noise about the treatment of Africans by the American government,” Matsanga said, capturing the visceral frustration of continental fans after viral footage of the security screening surfaced online. “The stress that President Donald Trump has given us in this world can kill you. You can’t watch a match where you are being shown that you’re a slave who has just come up from Africa.”<\/p>\n

The squad was screened outdoors on the tarmac ahead of their travel to Texas for a World Cup warm-up friendly against Saudi Arabia. While Matsanga slammed the procedure as an assault on African dignity, the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) moved quickly to defuse the controversy, clarifying that the tarmac screening was actually a pre-arranged logistical favor.<\/p>\n

According to the FSF, allowing security and police checks to occur directly at the foot of the aircraft allowed the team’s bus to drive straight from the hotel to the tarmac.
