South Africa’s (SA) Justice and Constitutional Development Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi says migration is a global phenomenon and not unique to SA.<\/p>\n
Kubayi made the remarks during a visit to about 2 500 Malawian nationals seeking refuge at Sherwood Hall in Durban, Kwa Zulu Natal province on Thursday.<\/p>\n
She started in Moore Road where another group of foreign nationals has been camping for weeks. The groups, many claiming to be refugees, are said to have left their homes amid fears sparked by the June 30th deadline issued to undocumented foreigner nationals.<\/p>\n
Kubayi says she has been informed that many of the people want to be repatriated.<\/p>\n
\u201cMigration is a challenge globally. It\u2019s a global phenomenon. It\u2019s not only us who battle with it. We have chosen as South Africa an option of not having refugee camps, but we also say those who are here, as the President has said, must be here legally, not illegally. Those who are illegal, we\u2019ve got to be able to deport them. So here we can\u2019t even say in the site whether people are illegal. We can\u2019t assume that everybody here is illegal. That\u2019s why Home Affairs is here. But people who are here, the report that we get is that they are requesting to be assisted, to be repatriated back to Malawi.\u201d<\/p>\n
