At the top of the agenda is the potential restructuring of a massive public debt mountain that has now scaled nearly 132% of gross domestic product, leaving the nation trapped in a deep fiscal crisis.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The high-stakes negotiations are taking place in an incredibly tense atmosphere. The relationship between Dakar and the international lender soured after a routine review uncovered a trail of undeclared liabilities and hidden financial gaps built up over previous years. The discovery of these unrecorded debts forced the IMF to freeze a crucial $1.8 billion financing package that had been previously agreed upon to support the economy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Economist Dr Mor Gassama warns that stabilizing the country\u2019s accounts will require aggressive and unpopular economic reforms. According to Gassama, the newly discovered financial discrepancies have severely damaged the country\u2019s international credibility, making the renegotiation of its debt dynamic a massive uphill battle.
