The South African (SA) Rand edged up in early trading on Monday as investors awaited \u200ba batch of month-end economic data to \u200cassess the state of Africa’s largest economy, while also monitoring anti-immigration protests planned for Tuesday.<\/div>\n

The \u200bRand traded at 16.42 to the Dollar, about \u200b0.2% stronger than its previous close.<\/div>\n

The Dollar \u2060was flat against a basket of currencies, while oil \u200bprices rose on Monday following days of tit-for-tat \u200bstrikes by the United States and Iran that underscored the fragility of their interim peace deal and again slowed energy shipping \u200bthrough the Strait of Hormuz.<\/div>\n

On the domestic \u200bfront, investors will track releases including SA’s money supply, \u200cprivate \u2060sector credit, the Central Bank’s inflation expectations survey, as well as trade balance and budget balance.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
However, ETM Analytics said in a note that these \u200bindicators may \u200bbe overshadowed \u2060by Tuesday’s anti-immigration protests, which it flagged as the main near-term risk.<\/div>\n

“Once this risk \u200bpasses and the week progresses, the \u200brand should \u2060begin to trade within a range more reflective of global oil prices and broader risk sentiment,” \u2060said \u200bETM Analytics.<\/div>\n

SA’s benchmark 2035 government \u200bbond was stronger in early deals, as the yield fell \u200b1 basis point to 8.175%.<\/div>\n
