Fear and uncertainty continue to grip undocumented Malawian nationals in South Africa (SA) as June 30 deadline set by civic movements for their repatriation draws closer.<\/p>\n
Hundreds have sought refuge at Malawian embassies and consulates, with many gathering at the High Commission in Pretoria in anticipation of transport back home. According to verified information, one bus left last night carrying women and children and those deemed vulnerable.<\/p>\n
Speaking to Channel Africa this Monday morning, Sammy a representative from Maremi Bus Company said buses were on their way to Pretoria to transport those waiting, adding that one bus would be sufficient to carry the 62 people currently at the High Commission.<\/p>\n
Authorities continue efforts to facilitate their return amid growing tension and desperation.<\/p>\n
Sammy explains, “What I know is that the buses are on the way. They are coming right now. The latest, it will be 10 o’clock. So everything will be sorted and everything will be in control. Do you know more or less how many buses are coming? According to the number of the people, because there are 60, 62 people here, so we wanted to bring two buses for them, but we can see that one bus is going to be enough for them.<\/p>\n
