The South African Revenue Service (SARS) says it has strengthened resources ahead of tax filing season to boost compliance.<\/p>\n
SARS is expanding digital services, including a new WhatsApp channel, to help taxpayers access assessments and avoid long queues.<\/p>\n
The filing season begins on the first of July, with about six million taxpayers set for auto-assessment.<\/p>\n
It says refunds could be issued within 72 hours, as voluntary compliance continues to rise nationally.<\/p>\n
SARS Commissioner Ngobani Johnstone Makhubu says, \u201cAnd as far as the filing season is concerned, I think what is important for us is to be able to ensure that the six million taxpayers that we are going to auto-assess starting from the 1st of July, that those taxpayers are able to check their status on our SARS online credit system. You can be able to go there and check your status, whether you are auto-assessed or not, between July 1 and 12.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd we want to make sure that those taxpayers don\u2019t panic to come to our offices, that they wait until the end of July 12 so that they are able to receive correspondence from us,\u201d adds Makhubu.<\/p>\n
