Dlamini-Zuma’s remarks come ahead of the planned June 30 shutdown, which has drawn criticism from across Africa, with some voices raising concerns about rising anti-foreigner sentiment and xenophobia in the country.<\/p>\n

Dlamini-Zuma warned that distancing South Africa from its continental partners could have serious economic consequences, given the country\u2019s reliance on regional trade. \u201cIf we get isolated by Africa, we\u2019re doomed,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
She stressed that countries typically depend on their regional neighbours as primary trading partners, noting that economic cooperation within Africa remains critical for growth.<\/p>\n

Dlamini-Zuma also challenged the narrative linking migration to unemployment, arguing that the country\u2019s economic challenges have been misdiagnosed. \u201cEven if all Africans were to leave, there\u2019ll still be unemployment,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She called for a greater focus on structural economic reforms, including improving skills development and transforming the education system. \u201cWe need to fix our economy. We need a skills revolution,\u201d Dlamini-Zuma said.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Dlamini-Zuma emphasised that education should not only prepare people to seek employment, but also empower them to become entrepreneurs and job creators.<\/p>\n
