{"id":38416,"date":"2026-06-30T12:12:53","date_gmt":"2026-06-30T10:12:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/?post_type=news&#038;p=38416"},"modified":"2026-06-30T12:12:53","modified_gmt":"2026-06-30T10:12:53","slug":"rights-groups-file-complaint-against-ghana-over-us-president-deportations","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/rights-groups-file-complaint-against-ghana-over-us-president-deportations\/","title":{"rendered":"Rights groups file complaint against Ghana over US President deportations"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Advocacy groups filed a complaint on behalf of people deported from the United States (US) to Ghana by President Donald Trump administration with the regional bloc representing \u200bWest Africa, according to a statement released early on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The complaint, known as \u200can application for a case, was filed against Ghana before the Community Court of Justice of the Economic Community of West African States on behalf of 27 deportees, the statement said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">At least \u200b60 people were deported to Ghana in total starting in September 2025, \u200bin what the Trump administration describes as a strategy &#8220;to end illegal \u2060and mass immigration and bolster America\u2019s border security.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The complaint said the deportees told \u200bauthorities they had been granted protections in the US but most of them were \u200bremoved within hours or days of their arrival in Ghana to the countries they had escaped.
