{"id":38436,"date":"2026-06-30T15:55:43","date_gmt":"2026-06-30T13:55:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/?post_type=news&#038;p=38436"},"modified":"2026-06-30T15:55:43","modified_gmt":"2026-06-30T13:55:43","slug":"drc-signs-diamonds-deal-with-swiss-firm-adex","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/drc-signs-diamonds-deal-with-swiss-firm-adex\/","title":{"rendered":"DRC signs diamonds deal with Swiss firm ADEX \u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has signed an agreement with Switzerland-based diamond and gemstone technology firm ADEX Platform for the marketing of Congolese diamonds, under \u200cwhich they will process the gemstones domestically.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The agreement is aimed at boosting transparency, curbing smuggling and raising local value addition, the Mines Ministry said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mines Minister Louis Watum Kabamba presided over the signing on Monday between ADEX \u2060and the state-run Mining Fund for Future Generations, the Ministry said in a statement posted on X.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The deal will create a joint venture, ADEX RDC S.A., owned equally by the two partners.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The ADEX RDC JV will establish an international-standard cutting and jewellery facility in DRC and develop a digital platform to enable direct sales to global markets, the ministry said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>DRC, \u200ca \u2060global top five and Africa&#8217;s second-largest diamond producer, has been pushing reforms to extract more value from its vast mining sector.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The country, once a major global diamond producer, has struggled with declining \u2060output and illicit exports, which have undermined revenues.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The world&#8217;s top cobalt supplier produced about 13 million carats of diamonds in 2021, falling to \u20608.1 million carats in 2025, according to official data.
