Tensions reached a boiling point ahead of a June 30 “deadline” set by a SA anti-migrant group demanding undocumented foreigners leave the country, prompting Accra to repatriate hundreds of its citizens.

Diplomatic relations have been further strained by the killing of a Ghanaian national in Cape Town. While Ghana’s Foreign Ministry asserts the citizen was shot dead during anti-immigrant demonstrations on June 30, SA police have disputed the motive, claiming the death occurred a day earlier and was linked to local extortion syndicates rather than xenophobia.

SA’s Presidential Spokesperson Vincent Magwenya stated that Johannesburg only learned of the deferral when attempting to finalise arrangements but noted that both nations will continue using diplomatic channels to reschedule the summit once conditions stabilise.

–Reuters/ChannelAfrica–

[78,26
post-39043","news","type-news","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","news-type-featured","news-type-general_news","entry
["GET
