However, the figures lag significantly behind the corresponding period last year, when the country pulled in $319.4 million from a much larger volume of 126.5 million kilograms.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Local farmers are also facing lighter pockets due to shifting global markets. The average market price for the review period sits at $2.06 per kilogram, falling short of the stronger $2.52 per kilogram average fetched during the same window last year.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Despite the lower valuation, there is a silver lining on the auction floors. The Tobacco Commission reported a major turnaround in leaf uptake from international buyers.
