The Paraguayan Senate passed a motion this week against Senator Celeste Amarilla after her racist remarks against France star Kylian Mbapp\u00e9, while the Senator insulted the player again during the Senate session.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Amarilla had posted a series of racist comments on X after Mbapp\u00e9 converted the winning penalty in France’s victory over Paraguay on Saturday, mocking the French captain’s origins, upbringing, education and appearance.<\/p>\n

France advanced to the quarterfinals, where it will face Morocco on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Remarks by Amarilla shocked France, and much of the world earlier this week after she branded Kylian Mbapp\u00e9 a brute, mocked his intelligence and questioned his French identity.<\/p>\n

Amarilla’s comments landed against an already charged backdrop after France’s World Cup tense knockout victory over Paraguay.<\/p>\n

Speaking to reporters, she struck a different tone acknowledging that her posts were racist and unfortunate.<\/p>\n

“Yes, my post against Mbapp\u00e9 was racist that’s why I deleted, it was unfortunate. However, I will not apologise, I said what I had to say. I come from a society where gays were beaten and where calling someone N word was the most usual thing. I come from that generation, so now I’m trying to build a different Amarilla, that’s capable of co-existing with others. Have patience, I’m trying.”
\nThe French captain using his social media\u00a0(X), chose not to remain silent in the face of the insults and posted a direct response to the senator, praising the Paraguayan people while condemning the politician’s attitude.<\/p>\n

“Amarilla you are a despicable woman and unworthy of your office. You do not represent Paraguay, a country that breathed passion and honour throughout the competition. Because of your irresponsibility and blatant racism, the whole world has already forgotten the campaign and historic effort your players made during this World Cup, replaced instead by an incompetent woman projecting the worst possible image of her country. I will never give people like you the freedom to spread your hatred and racism around the world.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
