{"id":39308,"date":"2026-07-10T19:25:01","date_gmt":"2026-07-10T17:25:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/?post_type=news&#038;p=39308"},"modified":"2026-07-10T19:25:01","modified_gmt":"2026-07-10T17:25:01","slug":"heavy-rain-threatens-oslo-world-cup-parties-as-norway-take-on-england","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/heavy-rain-threatens-oslo-world-cup-parties-as-norway-take-on-england\/","title":{"rendered":"Heavy rain threatens Oslo World Cup parties as Norway take on England"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Norway\u2019s famed \u201crow\u201d celebration may be one of the viral sensations of the World Cup in North America, but fans in the capital of Oslo might need their waterproofs when their side take on England in the quarter-finals on Saturday if forecast heavy rains arrive.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The team\u2019s five games so far at the tournament have seen tens of thousands of fans in Norway gathering outdoors to watch, with supporters packing streets and squares to cheer on their side and celebrate together as they contest, their first men\u2019s World Cup since 1998.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">However, a weather warning issued <span dir=\"ltr\">on Friday morning<\/span>for the south-east of the country has authorities and fans alike scrambling to review their arrangements for Norway\u2019s biggest World Cup game since the country\u2019s women won the 1995 final.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201c<span dir=\"ltr\">Saturday afternoon<\/span> and early evening, locally heavy rain showers with thunder are expected,\u201d the Norwegian Meteorological Institute said in a \u2018yellow\u2019 weather warning.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cIn some places, more than 20 mm may fall in an hour.\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cThere is a risk of stormwater in densely populated areas, and water penetrating basements.
