{"id":39638,"date":"2026-07-15T08:16:39","date_gmt":"2026-07-15T06:16:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/?post_type=news&#038;p=39638"},"modified":"2026-07-15T08:16:39","modified_gmt":"2026-07-15T06:16:39","slug":"court-to-hear-sas-president-urgent-bid-to-halt-impeachment-inquiry","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/court-to-hear-sas-president-urgent-bid-to-halt-impeachment-inquiry\/","title":{"rendered":"Court to hear SA&#8217;s President urgent bid to halt impeachment inquiry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Western Cape High Court in South Africa (SA) will begin proceedings this Wednesday in President Cyril Ramaphosa\u2019s urgent bid to halt Parliament\u2019s Section 89 impeachment process.<\/p>\n<p>Ramaphosa wants the Parliamentary process suspended pending the review of the Section 89 Independent Panel report, that found that he has a prima facie case to answer over the Phala Phala matter.<\/p>\n<p>The committee is the result of a May Constitutional Court ruling that the National Assembly acted irrationally, when it voted against the implementation of the report and that impeachment proceedings should be instituted against him.<\/p>\n<p>Ramaphosa argues that the work of the Impeachment Committee should be halted, pending the outcome of his review application, to prevent irreparable harm to his reputation.<\/p>\n<p>The committee is of the opinion that its work can and should continue while Ramaphosa challenges the accuracy of the Section 89 Independent Panel report.<\/p>\n<p>It is opposing Ramaphosa\u2019s application for an interdict.
