That is the main takeaway from the preliminary findings of the 2026 Ibrahim Index of African Governance, published by the Mo Ibrahim Foundation.

Looking at data spanning from 2016 to 2025, the report shows a slight bump in the continent’s average score. It is a modest recovery, but it suggests that efforts to boost oversight, improve prevention, and hold officials accountable are slowly starting to pay off.

Angola has emerged as one of the biggest success stories, ranking among the top five most improved countries on the continent alongside Seychelles, Chad, Somalia, and Togo. But the report also flags a major hurdle: even though governments are putting better laws and institutions in place, everyday citizens still don’t really trust that the fight against corruption is real.

Speaking in an interview on Caleidoscópio, international relations expert Feliciano Troso pointed out that while these policy reforms look good on paper, there is still a massive gap to bridge. He explained that governments have a long way to go to win over a skeptical public who are waiting to see these official changes actually make a difference in their daily lives.

–ChannelAfrica–

[78,26
post-39683","news","type-news","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","news-type-featured","news-type-general_news","entry
["GET
