The fault could lead to bearing failure, engine knocking, rough engine operation and difficulty starting.

Moilwa said the NCC is particularly concerned about the possibility of engine stalling while the vehicle is in motion. “What also worries us at the NCC is the engine stalling, which may happen while the vehicle is in motion,” Moilwa said.

Moilwa said recall repairs are provided free of charge and are intended to prevent defects from causing harm or loss.

“But if in the event that either an accident happens, or for some reason they suffer any kind of loss, they are fully capable of making a claim against the supplier,” Moilwa said.

Moilwa said suppliers remain accountable for vehicle performance even after a recall has been issued.

The NCC has recorded an increase in vehicle recalls, with nearly 40 000 vehicles recalled in SA by mid-2026 because of various safety defects.

Moilwa said the rise could reflect improved compliance by suppliers or possible vehicle quality concerns. “Recalls are an international phenomenon. It happens everywhere in the world,” Moilwa said.

Moilwa urged consumers to respond to recall notices and ensure affected vehicles are repaired to protect safety, property and consumer rights.

–ChannelAfrica–

[44
post-40318","news","type-news","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","news-type-finance","entry
South Africa's (SA) National Consumer Commission (NCC) says certain Nissan Qashqai sport utility vehicle models, Toyota Land Cruiser 300 vehicles and Lexus LX600 vehicles have been recalled in the country because of safety-related defects.

South Africa's (SA) National Consumer Commission (NCC) says certain Nissan Qashqai sport utility vehicle models, Toyota Land Cruiser 300 vehicles and Lexus LX600 vehicles have been recalled in the country because of safety-related defects.
["GET
