Currently, 755 patients remain hospitalised or in isolation, while 556 recoveries have been documented since the start of the outbreak.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The virus has spread across five eastern provinces: Ituri, North Kivu, South Kivu, Haut-U\u00e9l\u00e9, and Tshopo. Response efforts have been further complicated as healthcare workers at treatment facilities in Bunia initiated a strike over unpaid benefits and arrears.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The current outbreak, driven by the rare Bundibugyo ebolavirus strain, which carries a case fatality rate of around 40%, has no fully approved treatment or vaccine. Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka stated that national researchers are actively working to develop targeted vaccines and therapeutics, expressing hope that candidate treatments may reach clinical stages in the coming months.
