Tanzania has intensified health screenings across key ports and airports to guard against the potential spread of the Ebola virus from the neighboring Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).<\/p>\n

According to the DRC\u2019s Ministry of Health, the outbreak shows no sign of abating, with confirmed cases approaching 3 000 and more than 1 000 deaths recorded since the epidemic began. In response to the growing crisis, neighbouring countries have heightened preventive measures, with Tanzanian health authorities deploying strict surveillance protocols at major transit hubs.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Nelson John, a Health Officer stationed at Kigoma Lake Port, explained that screening begins before passengers step foot on land.<\/p>\n

“Before they disembark from the boat or in a vessel, we are doing most of the screening interventions through thermal scanner and handheld thermal scanners,” said John. “We are checking the temperature and to see those which have been highlighted or those with rising temperature before they are taken for secondary screening.”<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The enhanced monitoring at entry points forms part of a broader regional effort across East Africa to contain the virus and prevent cross-border transmission.<\/p>\n
