The PAP will, on Monday, open its First Ordinary Session at what Boutbig described as a critical moment for Africa and the wider world.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
In an opinion piece released ahead of the official opening, Boutbig said the session comes amid major geopolitical shifts, economic uncertainty, security threats, social pressures and environmental challenges.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
According to Boutbig, these developments require African institutions to move beyond the management of crises and focus on shaping the continent\u2019s future.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Boutbig said members of PAP will gather not only to inaugurate a new parliamentary session, but to begin a new chapter in African parliamentary action based on reform, renewal and effectiveness.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The session is expected to focus on strengthening PAP\u2019s role within the African Union (AU) architecture and improving the institution\u2019s contribution to continental priorities.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Boutbig said parliamentary diplomacy must be restored to its rightful place as one of the AU\u2019s key instruments for advancing peace, stability, development and integration.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The remarks come at a time when African countries are facing multiple overlapping pressures, including conflict, economic fragility, climate shocks, food insecurity and governance challenges.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
PAP is expected to use the session to reflect on how continental institutions can respond more effectively to these challenges while supporting Agenda 2063, the AU\u2019s long-term development framework.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Boutbig said the current moment demands stronger parliamentary engagement and a renewed commitment to practical outcomes.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The institution is also expected to discuss ways to strengthen oversight, deepen democratic participation and support greater coordination among African legislatures.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
PAP was established to give African citizens a stronger voice in continental governance and to support integration through dialogue, policy engagement and parliamentary cooperation.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The upcoming session is expected to place renewed emphasis on the role of elected representatives in promoting peace, economic development and democratic accountability.<\/p>\n
