Political analyst and conflict resolution expert Dr David Matsanga has urged African nations to launch a co-ordinated exit from the International Criminal Court (ICC), calling the tribunal inherently biased against the continent.<\/p>\n

His call comes on the heels of Chad\u2019s decision to pull out of the Hague-based court, joining members of the Alliance of Sahel States, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger, who have already severed ties with the body.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Speaking in an interview on Rise and Shine, Matsanga threw his full weight behind the latest wave of withdrawals, arguing that the court has spent decades pursuing African leaders while turning a blind eye to atrocities committed by Western powers.<\/p>\n

“The ICC is a fake organisation,” Matsanga said. “If it were a fair court, Western leaders responsible for massive destruction would have faced charges too. Instead, it has turned into a prison strictly meant for Africans.”<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Matsanga pressed African governments to invoke Article 127 of the Rome Statute, which allows member states to legally withdraw, and abandon what he views as a deeply flawed institution.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Rather than relying on European courts to adjudicate continental affairs, he called on African states to fully back and strengthen the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights in Arusha, Tanzania, to handle local justice on their own terms.<\/p>\n
