{"id":41015,"date":"2026-07-29T15:42:05","date_gmt":"2026-07-29T13:42:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/?post_type=news&#038;p=41015"},"modified":"2026-07-29T15:42:05","modified_gmt":"2026-07-29T13:42:05","slug":"number-of-political-parties-in-sa-increased-from-508-to-620-iec","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/number-of-political-parties-in-sa-increased-from-508-to-620-iec\/","title":{"rendered":"Number of political parties in SA increased from 508 to 620: IEC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The number of political parties that are registered with the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) has increased from 508 to 620.<\/p>\n<p>This has been revealed by the IEC\u2019s Chief Electoral Officer Sy Mamabolo at a media briefing in Pretoria, on preparations ahead of the last and final voter registration weekend on August 1 and 2.<\/p>\n<p>Close to 24 000 voting stations across the country will operate from 8am to 5pm (local time) this Saturday and Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Over 28 million people are registered on the voters roll.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe register of political parties currently comprises 620 registered political parties. So, there\u2019s\u2019 been a hive of activity relating to the registration of new political parties.
