{"id":41299,"date":"2026-08-01T13:19:35","date_gmt":"2026-08-01T11:19:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/?post_type=news&#038;p=41299"},"modified":"2026-08-01T13:19:35","modified_gmt":"2026-08-01T11:19:35","slug":"egypt-raises-most-household-power-tariffs-by-average-12","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/egypt-raises-most-household-power-tariffs-by-average-12\/","title":{"rendered":"Egypt raises most household power tariffs by average 12%"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Egypt&#8217;s Electricity and Renewable Energy Ministry said on Friday that it would keep tariffs unchanged for the \u200bfirst household consumption bracket while raising rates for other residential \u200busers by an average of 12%.<\/div>\n<div>The Ministry said it \u2060approved the new accounting tariff &#8220;in a bid to ensure the stability \u200bof power supply and the financial sustainability&#8221; of Egypt&#8217;s electricity and \u200brenewable energy network, covering production, transmission and distribution.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Egypt covers roughly 100 billion pounds a year ($1.9 billion) to bridge the gap between production costs and consumer tariffs, \u200bwith the state subsidy share shrinking as household consumption increases.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Customers pay \u200b25% of their bill at 50 kWh monthly usage, rising to around 50% \u200cat \u2060300 kWh, roughly 60% at 500-600 kWh, and 88% for usage between 700-1 000 kWh.
