According to local sources and regional representatives, the clashes involved heavy artillery and drone strikes, marking one of the most serious escalations in the area since the end of the civil war four years ago.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tigrayan authorities accused federal forces of launching an offensive, warning that the violence threatens the fragile 2022 African Union-brokered peace agreement. Federal officials, however, countered that regional forces provoked the fighting.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Sudanese refugee officials reported that artillery fire from the clashes even reached refugee camps inside Sudan, causing casualties among Ethiopian refugees already residing in the border areas.
