{"id":42159,"date":"2026-08-11T15:05:28","date_gmt":"2026-08-11T13:05:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/?post_type=news&#038;p=42159"},"modified":"2026-08-11T15:05:28","modified_gmt":"2026-08-11T13:05:28","slug":"malawi-target-wafcon-final-victory-against-algeria","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/malawi-target-wafcon-final-victory-against-algeria\/","title":{"rendered":"Malawi target WAFCON final victory against Algeria \u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Technical advisor of the Malawi women&#8217;s football team, Sudesh Singh, says the Scorchers have full confidence they can defeat Algeria in their upcoming CAF Women&#8217;s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) semi-final on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Singh, alongside fellow South African compatriot Tyrese Steyn, who serves as the team&#8217;s performance analyst, joined Malawi ahead of the tournament.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The duo has helped steer the Scorchers through a historic WAFCON debut, which has already seen them secure a spot at the 2027 FIFA Women&#8217;s World Cup.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>While acknowledging that Algeria presents a formidable tactical challenge, Singh maintains that Malawi\u2019s positive mindset can carry them into the final.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have the belief that we can win this game because we enter every match trying to play positive football and trying to win,&#8221; said Singh. &#8220;Algeria have a good coach and they are well organized on the field. They don&#8217;t have many outstanding individual players, but as a collective, as a unit, they are very well equipped as you can see by the results achieved.
