At least 30 people have died in Guinea after a massive rubbish dump collapsed following heavy downpours, burying homes and an apartment block under tons of waste in the capital, Conakry.<\/p>\n

Emergency crews are racing against time to dig out families feared trapped beneath the debris. Local emergency services confirmed that 22 people were injured in the disaster, six of them critically, as heavy machinery and neighbours work side-by-side to clear the waterlogged refuse.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Terrified residents described being woken in the early hours of the morning by deafening rumbles as the sprawling heap gave way.<\/p>\n

“At around two or three in the morning, we heard something sliding,” recalled one survivor. “Everyone was shouting outside. I called to my wife and said we couldn’t stay in the house. As we ran out, there were strange noises behind me, and then I saw it collapse. I had to go and call people to help me get my mother out.”<\/p>\n

The disaster follows days of torrential rain across Guinea, laying bare severe safety risks and long-standing infrastructure failures at overcrowded municipal waste sites across the region.<\/p>\n
