Kenya Airways will disclose details of potential new investors within weeks, its Chairperson said, as the loss-making carrier seeks fresh capital to \u200bease debt pressure, restore grounded aircraft and fund its turnaround plan.<\/div>\n

“We \u200chave received interests from local and international investors who will inject both capital and other resources into KQ,” Chairman Kiprono Kittony told reporters on Tuesday.<\/div>\n

The planned announcement comes as \u200bthe airline confronts soaring fuel costs, aircraft maintenance delays and a \u200bshortage of spare parts, which have constrained capacity despite strong passenger \u2060demand.<\/div>\n

Kenya Airways reported a pre-tax loss of $123 million for \u200bthe first half of 2026, compared with a loss of billions of Shillings \u200bin the same period last year.<\/div>\n

On Wednesday last week, the carrier said fuel costs had risen 72% in the first half of 2026 due to the Middle East conflict, with \u200bfuel accounting for as much as half of its total costs. The \u200bconflict had also delayed deliveries of spare parts and maintenance services, the airline said.<\/div>\n

Kittony told \u200clocal \u2060broadcaster Citizen TV late on Tuesday that the airline had received interest from investors in the United States, China, South Africa and Singapore, but would run a transparent process because it is listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange.<\/div>\n

“We \u200bare confident that we \u200bshall achieve both \u2060a capital-raise partner and a strategic partner from the aviation industry,” Kittony said.<\/div>\n

He said a key part of the \u200brestructuring plan would be cleaning up the airline’s balance \u200bsheet, including \u2060the possible conversion into equity of principal debt owed to the Kenyan government and a consortium of local banks.<\/div>\n

The government is Kenya Airways’ largest shareholder.<\/div>\n

“It is also \u2060a \u200bstrategic imperative that Kenya does not lose significant \u200bequity control of the carrier in order for us not to lose the national carrier status,” \u200bhe said.<\/div>\n
