{"id":44260,"date":"2026-09-01T07:39:40","date_gmt":"2026-09-01T05:39:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/?post_type=news&#038;p=44260"},"modified":"2026-09-01T07:39:40","modified_gmt":"2026-09-01T05:39:40","slug":"science-investment-key-to-sas-economic-growth-minister","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/science-investment-key-to-sas-economic-growth-minister\/","title":{"rendered":"Science investment key to SA&#8217;s economic growth: Minister"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">South Africa&#8217;s (SA) Finance Minister, Enoch Godongwana, says investment in science and research is critical to strengthening the country&#8217;s economy and government.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">He was speaking at a strategic meeting at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), in Pretoria, Gauteng Province, hosted by the Science, Technology and Innovation Minister, Blade Nzimande.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The meeting focused on how science, technology and innovation can support economic growth, structural reforms and a more effective government.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The visit forms part of the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation&#8217;s ongoing efforts to place science, technology and innovation at the centre of government, education, industry and society.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">In his remarks Godongwana commended the work being done by the CSIR, saying its contribution is vital to ensuring that the state has the capacity to effectively use the country&#8217;s resources and advance its development agenda.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">But while commending the CSIR&#8217;s contribution, Godongwana expressed concern over SA&#8217;s economic growth trajectory, saying the country must do more to match the growth rates being recorded elsewhere on the continent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">He says the CSIR could play a key role in achieving the government&#8217;s target of at least three-percent economic growth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">&#8211;ChannelAfrica&#8211;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":15107,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"news-type":[26],"class_list":["post-44260","news","type-news","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","news-type-general_news","entry"],"acf":{"short_description":"","published_date":"","news_description":"Finance Minister, Enoch Godongwana,","form_embed":"","author":"","image_caption":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news\/44260","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/news"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news\/44260\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":44261,"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news\/44260\/revisions\/44261"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/15107"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=44260"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"news-type","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news-type?post=44260"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
