{"id":44843,"date":"2026-09-07T13:47:12","date_gmt":"2026-09-07T11:47:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/?post_type=news&#038;p=44843"},"modified":"2026-09-07T13:49:53","modified_gmt":"2026-09-07T11:49:53","slug":"automobile-association-of-sa-welcomes-new-vehicle-safety-standards","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/automobile-association-of-sa-welcomes-new-vehicle-safety-standards\/","title":{"rendered":"Automobile Association of SA welcomes new vehicle safety standards"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"ltr\" data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">The Automobile Association (AA) of South Africa (SA) has welcomed the revision of the minimum safety standards for all new passenger cars sold in SA.<\/div>\n<div id=\"x_ms-outlook-mobile-signature\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div>This comes after the government gazetted the Draft Compulsory Specification for Motor Vehicles of Category M1, which proposes new safety standards for all new passenger cars sold in the local market.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div>The draft regulations have been published for public comment within two months of publication.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div>The AA says the revised safety standards must be applied across all derivatives and specification levels of new vehicles sold in the country.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div>AA Chief Executive Officer Bobby Ramagwede says, \u201cThe issue that we\u2019re dealing with is that the safety standards in SA are far below the safety regulations of other territories. Basically in SA, you can get away with two airbags, and that\u2019s pretty much it that\u2019s required for safety.
