{"id":44919,"date":"2026-09-08T09:52:09","date_gmt":"2026-09-08T07:52:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/?post_type=news&#038;p=44919"},"modified":"2026-09-08T09:52:09","modified_gmt":"2026-09-08T07:52:09","slug":"former-sa-apartheid-era-security-captain-denies-injuring-biko-during-detention","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/former-sa-apartheid-era-security-captain-denies-injuring-biko-during-detention\/","title":{"rendered":"Former SA apartheid-era security captain denies injuring Biko during detention"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">Former South African (SA) apartheid-era security branch captain Daniel Petrus Siebert has concluded his testimony in the Steve Biko Inquest on Monday in the Gqeberha High Court.<\/div>\n<div id=\"x_x_ms-outlook-mobile-signature\">\n<div><\/div>\n<div>He was cross-examined by evidence leader Devandra Govender about the events that led to the death of Biko.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Siebert was involved in the 1977 detention and interrogation of Black Consciousness Movement leader.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Govender put it to Siebert that his testimonies made in the 1977 inquest, in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, and in this current inquest, did not correspond.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span class=\"x_spanWithBackgroundColor\">Govender, &#8220;I am also gonna put it to you that the intention and the only reason that hosepipe was in that room, the intention was to assault Biko and there was no scuffle.
