{"id":45014,"date":"2026-09-09T09:57:39","date_gmt":"2026-09-09T07:57:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/?post_type=news&#038;p=45014"},"modified":"2026-09-09T09:57:39","modified_gmt":"2026-09-09T07:57:39","slug":"sa-exploring-more-opportunities-in-its-creative-economy","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/sa-exploring-more-opportunities-in-its-creative-economy\/","title":{"rendered":"SA exploring more opportunities in its creative economy"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>South Africa (SA) is looking to unlock more opportunities in its creative economy as the country grapples with unemployment, particularly among young people.<\/div>\n<div id=\"x_x_ms-outlook-mobile-body-separator-line\">\n<p>World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) Director-General Daren Tang is in SA to engage on how intellectual property can help drive innovation, jobs and economic growth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe creative economy in SA provides employment to about a million people and it\u2019s about 4% of Gross Domestic Product. And increasingly when you talk about the creative economy, we\u2019re also talking about the digital economy, because creatives are using digital technologies to create and consume content,\u201d says Tang.<\/p>\n<p>As Artificial Intelligence (AI) rapidly transforms the way creative content is produced, questions over copyright and intellectual property are becoming increasingly urgent.<\/p>\n<p>Tang says WIPO sees AI and Intellectual Property (IP) not as a challenge but rather as an opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWIPO sees IP not just as a challenge, but also an opportunity.
