Patrice Motsepe, president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), said he remains confident Kenya, \u200bTanzania and Uganda will successfully host \u200cthe 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, dismissing suggestions the tournament could be moved elsewhere.<\/p>\n
Motsepe conceded there were \u200bchallenges in preparations, but said CAF was \u200bcommitted to working with the countries to \u2060meet key deadlines.<\/p>\n
“There will always be challenges \u200band areas that require improvement, but we have \u200bto believe in ourselves as East Africans and Africans that we will work together and meet those deadlines,” \u200bhe told a press conference on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Motsepe \u200backnowledged, however, that significant work remained, with the three \u200ccountries \u2060racing to complete facilities and infrastructure ahead of the tournament.<\/p>\n
“I’m very proud of the good work that’s taking place in Tanzania. And, we \u200bhave nine \u200bmonths and \u2060part of my emphasis is we have to speed up, and \u200bwe are here to work together to \u200bhelp, \u2060to assist. This is our AFCON.”<\/p>\n
The 2027 tournament, the first to be jointly hosted by \u2060Kenya, \u200bTanzania and Uganda, is provisionally \u200bscheduled to run from June 19 to July 17.<\/p>\n
