{"id":45836,"date":"2026-09-18T07:55:37","date_gmt":"2026-09-18T05:55:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/?post_type=news&#038;p=45836"},"modified":"2026-10-12T12:45:20","modified_gmt":"2026-10-12T10:45:20","slug":"eac-un-agencies-partner-on-regional-health-framework","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/eac-un-agencies-partner-on-regional-health-framework\/","title":{"rendered":"EAC, UN agencies partner on regional health framework \u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The East African Community (EAC) and four United Nations (UN) agencies have committed to establishing a structured partnership framework to co-ordinate regional health and human capital development priorities across partner states.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The agreement was reached during a bilateral meeting at the EAC headquarters in Arusha between EAC Secretary General Ambassador Stephen P. Mbundi and senior Regional Directors from the Joint UN Programme on HIV\/AIDS (UNAIDS), the UN Population Fund (UNFPA), the UN Children&#8217;s Fund (UNICEF), and the World Health Organisation (WHO).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The delegation was led by UNFPA Regional Director for Eastern and Southern Africa Lydia Zigomo, alongside WHO Regional Director for Africa Dr Mohamed Yakub Janabi, UNICEF Regional Director Etleva Kadilli, and UNAIDS Deputy Regional Director Medhin Tsehaiu.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mbundi directed technical teams to fast-track the formalisation of the framework through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) within three months.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The initiative focuses on joint action in Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health, HIV prevention, Universal Health Coverage, and sustainable health financing to support East Africa&#8217;s demographic potential.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;ChannelAfrica\/EAC&#8211;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":16383,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_members_access_role":[],"_members_access_error":"","_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"news-type":[26],"class_list":["post-45836","news","type-news","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","news-type-general_news","entry"],"acf":{"short_description":"EAC fast-tracks Health MoU with UN bodies","published_date":"2026-09-18 09:55:08","news_description":"EAC fast-tracks Health MoU with UN bodies","form_embed":"","author":"","image_caption":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news\/45836","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/news"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news\/45836\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":45837,"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news\/45836\/revisions\/45837"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/16383"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=45836"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"news-type","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news-type?post=45836"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
