{"id":45902,"date":"2026-09-18T18:27:45","date_gmt":"2026-09-18T16:27:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/?post_type=news&#038;p=45902"},"modified":"2026-09-18T18:27:45","modified_gmt":"2026-09-18T16:27:45","slug":"sa-province-strengthens-response-to-mpox-following-rise-in-cases","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/sa-province-strengthens-response-to-mpox-following-rise-in-cases\/","title":{"rendered":"SA province strengthens response to Mpox following rise in cases"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Western Cape province in South Africa (SA) is strengthening its response to Mpox, following a rise in cases.<\/p>\n<p>Fifteen confirmed cases have been recorded in the province since January, with 11 confirmed between August and 18 September.<\/p>\n<p>Most cases are in Cape Town.<\/p>\n<p>Symptoms may occur anywhere on the body, including the face, hands, feet, mouth and genital areas.<\/p>\n<p>Western Cape Health Chief Operating Officer, Doctor Saadiq Kariem, says residents should know the symptoms, avoid close contact and seek healthcare early.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnyone can get Mpox, but what matters is knowing the signs, understanding how it spreads and taking steps in protecting the people around you.
