{"id":46092,"date":"2026-09-22T07:32:08","date_gmt":"2026-09-22T05:32:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/?post_type=news&#038;p=46092"},"modified":"2026-09-22T07:32:08","modified_gmt":"2026-09-22T05:32:08","slug":"sa-top-police-official-to-appear-in-court-for-rape","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/sa-top-police-official-to-appear-in-court-for-rape\/","title":{"rendered":"SA top police official to appear in court for rape"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">A South African (SA) high ranking police official is expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrates\u2019 Court in Johannesburg this Tuesday.<\/div>\n<div id=\"x_x_ms-outlook-mobile-signature\">\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The Commissions Recommendations Task Team arrested the Lieutenant-General on Monday.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The official is facing charges related to sexual offences after allegedly sexually grooming of a 16-year-old girl between July and August this year.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>He is also accused of raping an 18-year-old woman at a hotel in Sandton in May 2026.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>National Police Spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe says, \u201cThe acting N<span class=\"x_spanWithBackgroundColor\">ational Commissioner<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0has strongly condemned the alleged conduct, particularly in the context of the country\u2019s ongoing fight against gender-based violence (GBV) and femicide.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u201cLieutenant General Puleng Dimpane emphasised that members of the South African Police Service have a heightened responsibility to protect women and children from violence, abuse and exploitation.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Mathe adds, \u201cPolice officers are entrusted with protecting women and children, they cannot themselves be implicated in conduct that undermines this responsibility.
