{"id":46587,"date":"2026-09-27T09:40:08","date_gmt":"2026-09-27T07:40:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/?post_type=news&#038;p=46587"},"modified":"2026-09-27T09:40:08","modified_gmt":"2026-09-27T07:40:08","slug":"sa-police-launch-manhunt-after-17-killed-in-tavern-shooting","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/sa-police-launch-manhunt-after-17-killed-in-tavern-shooting\/","title":{"rendered":"SA police launch manhunt after 17 killed in tavern shooting \u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>South African (SA) police said this Sunday they had launched a manhunt after \u200c17 people were killed and 15 wounded in a shooting at a tavern in Wedela township southwest of Johannesburg.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Emergency medical services declared the \u206013 males and 4 females dead at the scene, and the motive for the shooting was not known, the SA Police Service said in a statement posted on X.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Suspects were reportedly armed with AK-47 rifles and pistols,&#8221; \u200cthe \u2060statement said of the shooting, which occurred around 21:30 pm CAT on Saturday in Gauteng province.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Fifteen other victims with gunshot wounds \u2060were transported to medical facilities, the police said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>No arrests have been made, the statement \u2060said.
