{"id":46744,"date":"2026-09-29T07:51:54","date_gmt":"2026-09-29T05:51:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/?post_type=news&#038;p=46744"},"modified":"2026-09-29T07:51:54","modified_gmt":"2026-09-29T05:51:54","slug":"kenya-classifies-el-nino-rains-as-national-security-threat","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/kenya-classifies-el-nino-rains-as-national-security-threat\/","title":{"rendered":"Kenya classifies El Ni\u00f1o rains as national security threat"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The Kenyan government has classified expected El Ni\u00f1o related rains as an imminent national security threat, warning that all 47 counties could be affected.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Authorities are urging people across Kenya to closely follow official weather and disaster management updates, as the country prepares for potentially severe rainfall and its impact on lives and property.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Deputy President Kithure Kindiki made the remarks recently after chairing an El Ni\u00f1o preparedness meeting at his Karen residence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">&#8220;Where vacation orders are issued, they must be complied with. Where certain movements may be restricted to avoid a loss of life.
