{"id":47062,"date":"2026-10-02T08:01:47","date_gmt":"2026-10-02T06:01:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/?post_type=news&#038;p=47062"},"modified":"2026-10-02T08:01:47","modified_gmt":"2026-10-02T06:01:47","slug":"officer-opposes-bail-for-suspended-top-sa-cop","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/officer-opposes-bail-for-suspended-top-sa-cop\/","title":{"rendered":"Officer opposes bail for suspended top SA cop"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\">South Africa&#8217;s (SA) investigating officer in the case against suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya, has told the Randburg Magistrates\u2019 Court, that he should not be released on bail as there is a high likelihood that he may harm the complainants.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">This was heard during day two of Sibiya\u2019s bail application.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Sibiya was arrested last week on charges of rape, human trafficking and the alleged sexual grooming of a sixteen-year-old girl.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">A new charge of contravening the firearms control act has also been added to his charge sheet.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Investigating officer, Sergeant Nokukhanya Ndlovu, says there is strong evidence indicating that Sibiya will attempt to interfere with the state\u2019s case.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Ndlovu says, \u201cThe accused actions are beyond reasonable doubt that he is likely to harm M or ZM who are well known to him and whose contact details are known to him. This is evidence as per his phone call at the time I was opening the current case. This may not be regarded as mere coincidence.
