{"id":47471,"date":"2026-10-07T09:47:32","date_gmt":"2026-10-07T07:47:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/?post_type=news&#038;p=47471"},"modified":"2026-10-07T09:47:32","modified_gmt":"2026-10-07T07:47:32","slug":"motorists-in-sa-call-on-government-to-cushion-impact-of-high-fuel-prices","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/motorists-in-sa-call-on-government-to-cushion-impact-of-high-fuel-prices\/","title":{"rendered":"Motorists in SA call on government to cushion impact of high fuel prices"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Motorists in South Africa (SA) have appealed to the government to intervene and cushion them against high fuel prices.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>From midnight, the petrol price has breached the R30 ($1.81) per-litre mark for the first time.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Diesel has risen by between R2.84 ($0.17) and R3.24 ($0.20) per litre, while illuminating paraffin will increase by R4.77 ($0.29 ) per litre.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Organised labour, taxi associations and political parties are among those who have called on government to implement measures to help cushion citizens from sharp increases.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Motorists say they have had to adjust their lifestyles in recent months to cope with the rising cost of fuel.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u201cI have to constantly relook at my budget. I constantly have to take out money from my savings or take out money from money that I was supposed to allocate to myself for fun or whatever and relook at my budget, rethink how I spend, how I transport myself\u201d, said one motorist.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Another said, \u201cI have to rethink if I want to travel, do I want to go by car, do I have to walk to places or whatever. I need to reduce my travelling. As I said, it\u2019s a whole trip between here and Centurion.
