WHO expects conditions to worsen because of poor rainfall, crop failures, rising food insecurity and a strengthening El Niño weather pattern.

Mental healthcare remains severely limited, while supplies of medicines for HIV, tuberculosis and neglected tropical diseases are running dangerously low.

Darfur hosts 65% of Sudan’s 8.6 million displaced people, according to the International Organisation for Migration.

WHO said operations could be expanded across Darfur, Kordofan and other conflict-affected areas if additional funding and safe humanitarian access were secured.

Only 23% of WHO’s $97.7 million humanitarian appeal for Sudan in 2026 has been funded.

The warning came as the United Nations Security Council unanimously extended targeted sanctions and an arms embargo relating to Sudan until December 11. The mandate of the panel monitoring the measures will continue until January 11, 2027.

The two-month extension leaves the sanctions framework unchanged and follows a one-month renewal adopted on September 11.

The measures originate from the 2004 Darfur conflict. A reported proposal to extend the arms embargo across Sudan and include drones and dual-use technology failed to secure agreement in the Security Council.

Fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces continues to affect civilians and humanitarian operations.

An aerial attack on two World Food Programme-contracted trucks in South Kordofan killed a driver on October 3.

Diplomatic efforts remain focused on a proposed 90-day ceasefire, but negotiations have yet to produce an agreement.

Abubakar called for greater resources and safe, sustained and unrestricted access to communities requiring healthcare and other lifesaving assistance.

–UN/ChannelAfrica–

[26
post-47688","news","type-news","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","news-type-general_news","entry
More than 700 000 displaced people in Tawila, Sudan, face severe shortages of healthcare, food, water and protection as conflict continues across Darfur.

More than 700 000 displaced people in Tawila, Sudan, face severe shortages of healthcare, food, water and protection as conflict continues across Darfur.
["GET
