{"id":47853,"date":"2026-10-13T15:47:22","date_gmt":"2026-10-13T13:47:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/?post_type=news&#038;p=47853"},"modified":"2026-10-13T15:48:07","modified_gmt":"2026-10-13T13:48:07","slug":"drcs-ebola-infections-surpass-9-000-government-report-shows","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/drcs-ebola-infections-surpass-9-000-government-report-shows\/","title":{"rendered":"DRC&#8217;s Ebola infections surpass 9 000, government report shows"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"x_elementToProof\">The number of confirmed Ebola cases \u200cin the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has risen above 9 000, government data showed on Tuesday, as responders \u200bstruggle to slow transmission in multiple \u200bhotspots.<\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\">The latest situation report from DRC&#8217;s public \u2060health institute put the number of cases at \u200b9 066 and deaths at 4 381.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\">The outbreak, caused by \u200bthe Bundibugyo strain of Ebola, was declared in May and has become the largest and deadliest in Congo&#8217;s \u200bhistory, overtaking the 2018 to 2020 epidemic.
