{"id":48198,"date":"2026-10-16T11:49:15","date_gmt":"2026-10-16T09:49:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/?post_type=news&#038;p=48198"},"modified":"2026-10-16T11:49:15","modified_gmt":"2026-10-16T09:49:15","slug":"data-analysis-reveals-voter-behaviour-election-trends-in-sa","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/data-analysis-reveals-voter-behaviour-election-trends-in-sa\/","title":{"rendered":"Data analysis reveals voter behaviour, election trends in SA"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"x_elementToProof\" data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research <span class=\"x_spanWithBackgroundColor\">has stated<\/span>\u00a0that data modelling and statistical analysis play a key role in unmasking South Africa&#8217;s (SA) voter behaviour and\u00a0election results.<\/div>\n<div>\nThe Council&#8217;s Impact Area Manager,\u00a0Professor Pravesh Debba,\u00a0says their election prediction model provides deeper insights into shifting voting patterns and the final electoral outcomes long before the counting ends.<\/div>\n<div>\nDebba was\u00a0speaking on the eagerly awaited\u00a0Local Government Elections.<\/div>\n<div>\nHe\u00a0says the methodology behind these early projections highlights why mathematical accuracy and transparency are critical for responsible.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>&#8220;We aren&#8217;t doing the verification as such, but, you know, as the data starts coming in, and, you know, what we are trying to do is to observe when we get to a position that the model is stable and giving a consistent result. So, when we are getting a consistent result, then that is when we communicate to audiences, to the journalists, and so on, the prediction at various different levels. So, we look at it at a national level.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>&#8220;So, what&#8217;s the outcome at a national level? And for that you need 5% to 10% of the voting districts declared. But then we also go down to the provincial level, and at provincial level usually you need a bit more.
