Most are agents and technicians working within the communities served.

However, affordability remains a major barrier. Only one-third of households without electricity can afford an entry-level system through pay-as-you-go financing, while another third could afford one only with financial difficulty.

Connecting hundreds of millions of people by 2030 will require approximately $11.4 billion in investment, including $1.3 billion annually in grants and affordability subsidies and $1.6 billion annually in equity, debt and receivables financing.

Distributed renewable energy is expected to support Mission 300, which aims to connect 300 million people in sub-Saharan Africa to electricity by 2030.

The World Bank Group committed $974 million to off-grid solar during the 2025 and 2026 financial years.

The Report recommended value-added tax exemptions, import-duty waivers and targeted subsidies to reduce costs and expand access.

–WorldBank/ChannelAfrica–

[26
post-49244","news","type-news","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","news-type-general_news","entry
The number of people using off-grid solar products has increased by 26% in two years, reaching 149 million as the technology increasingly supports businesses and essential services.

The number of people using off-grid solar products has increased by 26% in two years, reaching 149 million as the technology increasingly supports businesses and essential services.
["GET
