{"id":49382,"date":"2026-10-29T10:07:56","date_gmt":"2026-10-29T08:07:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/?post_type=news&#038;p=49382"},"modified":"2026-10-29T10:07:56","modified_gmt":"2026-10-29T08:07:56","slug":"rand-weakens-ahead-of-producer-inflation-data","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.channelafrica.co.za\/channelafrica\/news\/rand-weakens-ahead-of-producer-inflation-data\/","title":{"rendered":"Rand weakens ahead of producer inflation data"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The South African (SA) Rand weakened in early trade on Thursday as declines in gold \u200band platinum prices weighed on the commodity-linked \u200ccurrency, while investors looked ahead to local producer inflation data due later in the day.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The Rand traded at 16.65 \u200bagainst the Dollar, about \u200b0.4% weaker than its previous close.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">SA&#8217;s key \u2060export commodities came under pressure, with gold falling nearly \u200b1% and platinum dropping 1.5% as investors assessed \u200bsignals from the United States (US) Federal Reserve and Chair Kevin Warsh after policymakers left interest rates unchanged.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Data released by the S\u200bA Reserve Bank on Thursday showed growth in \u200bbroad money supply was 7.93% year-on-year in September, down from \u200c8.89% \u2060in August, while private-sector credit growth was 6.23%, down from 7.47%.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Investors&#8217; attention now turns to September producer price inflation figures.
